Fantasy Hockey Rules

League Overview

Ferren Fantasy Hockey is a head-to-head fantasy hockey league built around NHL players, weekly matchups, waivers, trades, and expansion teams.

Roster Rules

Teams may carry a maximum of 20 active players plus up to 4 IR players.

Position Starter Slots Max Allowed
C 2 4
LW 2 4
RW 2 4
D 4 6
G 2 3
BENCH 8 8

Injured Reserve (IR)

  • Teams may carry up to 4 IR players.
  • IR players do not count toward the active 20-player roster limit.
  • Teams may temporarily exceed roster limits only through legal IR use.
  • Once a player is no longer IR eligible, the team must return to legal roster limits before making additional roster moves.

Waivers

  • Dropped players enter waivers.
  • Waiver priority determines claim order.
  • Winning claims move teams to the bottom of waiver order.

Undroppable Players

The Commissioner may designate certain players as Undroppable Players. These players are considered franchise cornerstone players and receive additional roster protections.

  • Undroppable Players may not be dropped.
  • Undroppable Players may not be placed on waivers.
  • Undroppable Players may not be released to free agency.
  • Undroppable Players may be traded unless otherwise restricted by the Commissioner.
  • Undroppable Players may be moved between the active roster and Injured Reserve (IR), when eligible.
  • The Commissioner may add or remove players from the Undroppable Players list at any time.

Expansion Draft

An Expansion Draft is used when a new fantasy team joins an existing league. Because all players are already owned by existing teams, a new owner would have little opportunity to build a competitive roster through free agency alone. The Expansion Draft allows the new team to acquire players from existing rosters while still protecting the core players of current teams.

Protected Players

Each existing fantasy team may protect up to 14 players. This allows teams to protect their entire starting lineup plus two additional bench players. Any player not protected becomes eligible for the Expansion Draft.

Expansion Draft Selections

The Expansion Team shall receive the same number of selections as the number of rounds in the league's original draft. Example:

  • Original Draft = 18 Rounds
  • Expansion Draft = 18 Selections

Eligible Players

Expansion Draft selections may be used on:

  • Any exposed player from an existing fantasy team.
  • Any undrafted free agent.

The Expansion Team may freely choose between exposed players and undrafted free agents throughout the Expansion Draft.

Team Selection Limits

There is no limit on the number of players that may be selected from a single fantasy team. Teams are responsible for protecting the players they wish to keep.

Ownership of Exposed Players

Exposed players are not considered dropped players. Exposed players remain the property of their current fantasy team unless selected by the Expansion Team.

If an exposed player is not selected during the Expansion Draft, ownership remains with the original fantasy team.

Exposed players do not enter waivers and do not become free agents.
